I recomend The CTF themes Because This WILL NOT BRICK ur PSP

I will not be responsible on anything that will happened when flashing the Flash themes.

1.50 Kernel Add-on for 5.00M33 (for PHAT Units only)

October 19th, 2008 by jeric

1.50 kernel add - on for 5.00 m33 is out now this is for psp phat only .. as usual dark alex always play fair if he release a CFW I’m sure he will release ah CFW for phat user out there.. here are the link and instruction..

1.50 kernel addon for 5.00 (phat)
Instructions: Copy to /PSP/GAME5XX and run.

Note: because even deleting LFTV and korean font there was not enough space this time, this version will delete also flash0:/dic/apotp.dic

I’m unsure about what this file is for (maybe for japanese text predicition?) but system works fine with it.

IF you want to keep some of the things deleted by the 150k_installer do following things.

- Install DC7. Use the Format flash options in nand operations menu. Make flash1 size like around 1 MB smaller, make flash3 the smallest possible, and make flash2 a bit smaller (not too much, or you won’t be able to download games and demos from psstore). Then, make flash0 as big as possible and continue.

- Install 4.01 M33, update to 5.00 M33.

- Install 1.50 addon. Dump 5.00 using the latest psardumper, and flash the deleted files you want back.

hope this will help you guys,,

Upms tutorial

August 27th, 2008 by jeric

Credit goes to UPMS Project Team!

Here is their new site: http://www.noob911.com/

How To Install UPMSv4

WARNING

You must follow this read me completly, DO NOT skip any of the steps, the only step
you can skip is the battery one. REMOVE ANY CUSTOM THEMES/PRX’S FROM FLASH0
BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH UPMSINSTALLER. DO NOT SWITCH OFF YOUR PSP UNTIL THE INSTALLER HAS FINISHED

Items Required

An original Pro Duo Memory Stick that is at least 512mb for Nand Backup.

A psp running custom firmware (it is best for the psp to be running a minimum of
3.52m33 or 3.71-2m33) with a battery at least 75% full (ideally 100% full).

1.50Eboot renamed to 150.PBP
1.50Eboot renamed to UPDATE.PBP
3.71Eboot renamed to 371.PBP
3.80Eboot renamed to 380.PBP

U.P.M.S cso application.
DL Here >>

Method

UPDATE FOR V3R3 Clean Memory Stick Option If you already have a working Pandora
or UPMS stick, there is no need to format it. Launch UPMSInstaller and press X to
bypass the fatms371 mod install, goto firmware options and select Clean Memory Stick,
this will remove and previous installation but only the system files, so if you have
NandDumps or other files in the PSP/ folder this option will not remove them. Once this
is complete, you can then continue to install your desired firmware.

—————————————-

Time Machine by Dark_AleX You can select to install or run Time Machine from the
Utilities Menu, selecting this option will exit UPMSInstaller and Launch Time Machine.
Choose both option 1 and option 2 from the Time Machine’s menu. Then choose your
desired firmware install, make sure you have the required EBOOT’s on the root of your
Memory Stick. After install you will need to edit the config.txt file for the desired
buttons to boot into the various firmwares or UPMS/Pandora.

—————————————-

Note 1 If you already own a Pandora battery and memory stick without the multi-boot
function you must remove your battery and plug in the AC cable, but the memory stick
can remain inserted.

Note 2 If you are running a psp with custom firmware 3.80M33 installed you will have a
slightly different install sequence. This sequence will involve the writing of files to your
Flash 0.

Note 3 The U.P.M.S installer now has an application embedded that will enable you to
format a fake memory stick (you are still advised to use an original pro duo stick).

Steps

1 Switch on your psp.
2 Make sure your psp is set to run the Sony NP9660 umd iso driver if you are running
3.52cfw or above.
3 Scroll to the USB icon and connect to the computer.
4 Back up the entire contents of your memory stick to a safe folder on your computer
(just to keep anything you may require later e.g. music etc).
5 Disable the psp from the computer.
6 Scroll to System Settings and press X, then scroll to Format Memory Stick and press
X to format the stick.
7 After the memory stick has been formatted scroll back to the USB icon and connect to
the computer. ONLY FOLLOW THESE IF YOU ARE USING A FAKE STICK
7.1 Format your Fake with the PSP’s format option first, this will clear the boot area of
unsuccessful trys.
7.2 If you are using a fake memory stick copy in to the ISO folder the U.P.M.S cso file
(this is just drag and drop).
7.3 Disconnect from the computer.
7.4 Scroll to the Game icon in the XMB and then scroll to the Memory Stick icon press
X and then press X again to run the installer.
7.5 If running 3.80M33+ the software will detect this and write a file to Flash0 (this will
enable the IPL to be written).
7.6 You should return to the XMB
7.7 Press X and X again.
7.8 Press X.
7.9 Scroll to the option that says format memory stick and format your stick by pressing
X.
7.10 Remove your memory stick and reinsert while UPMS is still running, then press X.
7.11 Scroll to the USB icon and connect to the computer.
8 Copy all the downloaded and renamed eboots on to the root of your memory stick
(this is just drag and drop). The root of the memory stick is the very first level that you
see when connected to the computer.
9 Open up the ISO folder and copy in to it the U.P.M.S cso file (this is just drag and
drop).
10 Disconnect from the computer.
11 Scroll to the Game icon in the XMB and then scroll to the Memory Stick icon press X
and then press X again to run the installer.
11.1 If running 3.80M33 the software will detect this and write a file to Flash0 (this will
enable the IPL to be written).
11.2 Press X and you should return to the XMB
11.3 Press X and then X again
11.4 Press X again to start the installer.
12 Run step 1 choosing to load the multi IPL (this will allow the battery to be used as
normal), when done go to the next step. If you already own a Pandora battery you can
miss step2, if not run step2.
13 Run step 2 and your battery EEPROM will automatically be backed up to the
memory stick if it is not already there (this will be needed to convert your battery back
if needed), and then convert your battery to a Pandora.
14 After making the Pandora battery plug in the AC cable.
15 Run step 3 to install the firmware that is required to make your U.P.M.S or if you
wish you can run the full installer and miss step 4 (this may take awhile but be patient
as long as the memory stick light is flashing it is still working)
16 Run step 4 to install all of the application that you might require if in the previous
step you choose to only load the U.P.M.S with out utilities.
17 Exit installer.

You should now have the ultimate unbricker/downgrader.

The battery and stick combination is now capable of doing all the following:

1 Upgrade a slim to 3.71-2 M33
2 Upgrade a phat to 3.71-2 M33 w/1.50-2 kernel patch
3 Upgrade a slim to 3.81-5 M33
4 Upgrade a phat to 3.81-5 M33 w/1.50 kernel patch
5 Downgrade a phat to 1.50
6 Upgrade a phat straight to 3.52 M33 from Extended Boot Menu then install update 4
via XMB with no need to downgrade to 1.50
7 Start up a psp with Ultimate Loader with support for choosing which Pandora you
require V1, V3 or V4 (by holding down the L trigger)
8 Boot to the XMB with the Pandora battery inserted (Phat Only)
9 Boot to a full 1.50 firmware from the memory stick (Phat Only)
10 Use PSPFiler and other tools (if it requires 1.50 slims can’t as there is no 1.5 kernel)
11 Upgraded a phat or slim to 3.71-4 M33 from the XMB with the update
12 Recover a bricked psp (phat or slim)

Here is a list of what each application can do

Despertar Cementerio 4: Upgrade all psp phat’s and slim’s to 3.80 M33-5 Back up Nand
& reinstall Despertar

Despertar Cementerio 3: Upgrade all psp phat’s and slim’s to 3.71M33-2 Back up Nand & reinstall

Hellcats’ Menu: THIS MENU CAN’T LOAD ON SLIMS Boot to 1.50 firmware from memory
stick Fix Flash 1. Boot to original Pandora V1 Various utilities with booting to 1.5
firmware on phat psp only. Upgrade to 3.52M33 Access USB through menu.

TheJokers Menu: THIS MENU CAN’T LOAD ON SLIMS Upgrade a psp phat only to
3.71M33-2 using Despertar Cementerio 3. It can only do the phat psp’s due to the 1.5
firmware limitation. Boot to original Pandora V1 Simple IPL Patch Run Key Cleaner
Run IDstorage Manager Run PSP Filer

Tools Menu: Load Elf Menu Nandmanager (used for nandbackups)

Ultimate Loader: This is a prx that was created by gh0st that boots first when you hold
the Lef Trigger (Mulit-IPL) and let’s you choose which menu system you want to use
and launch. It can boot all 4 systems on a phat psp but can only boot Despertar
Cementerio 3/4 on a slim psp.

Extra memory sticks:

If you wish to use additional memory sticks but leave your battery set up as a Pandora
one so that you can leave the one that contains the U.M.P.S files on all you have to do
is
1. Connect to you AC supply.
2. Insert the memory stick you wish to use.
3. Switch on you psp.
4. Format the memory stick from with in the XMB.
5. Go to the USB icon and connect to the computer.
6. Open up the ISO folder and place in there the U.P.M.S cso file
7. Disconnect from the computer.
8. Go to the Game icon in the XMB and run the installer.
9. Run step 1 choosing to load the multi ipl, this will then allow you to use this
memory stick as a normal one with your Pandora battery (you do not need to install all
of the files).

The Motherboard display for this model is displaying Tachyon: 0XXXXXXXXX, this is wrong, this is actually the Baryon value, I have updated the installer, but there is no need to re-download unless you want to.

Also I have updated Ultimate Loader which had a slight text display error when loading the Elf Menu the text was out of align and when loading NandTool the text displayed twice, these are now fixed.

Unzip ULUpdater download file to your desktop,

Connect Psp via USB,

Place the ULUpdater in /PSP/GAME,

Added new option to the Firmware Menu.
Clean Memory Stick for Fresh Install

If you already have either a Pandora or UPMS stick that is working, you can now choose to clean the stick and do a fresh install either as an upgrade or because you want to without having to write the IPL to the stick again or install the fatms371.prx

Instructions on how to use UPMS

FAT PSP:
->Switch off your psp
->Insert the UPMS memory stick
->Hold down the L trigger button
->Insert Pandora battery
->Release L trigger button when the Ultimate Loader menu appears
(If your psp boots to the XMB, it means you didn’t hold the L trigger button down)

SLIM PSP:
->Important: Make sure DCv3/v4 (cemetery) was the last active folder used, or you will have trouble getting the UL menu to light up-some people have had problems in the past attempting to use the UPMS on slim psps because of this…
In which case you will need to do the following:
->Power off and remove your slim battery.
->Push the power switch down so its in the HOLD position
->Insert the UPMS memory stick
->Now hold L and insert your Pandora Battery.
->Release L when the MS light or screen flashes
->Ultimate Loader will then switch the active folder to the cemetery or DCv3/4
->Carefully return the power switch to the middle or the ON position-making sure you dont put the psp in sleep mode

->If you just keep the DCv3/4/5 cemetery folder always active-you can basically follow the same steps as you would for a fat psp<-

You should then see the main menu (Ultimate Loader)
-From here you can select the following:

– Load Pandora Extended Menu (Hellcat)
– Load Despertar Cementerio v3
– Load Despertar Cementerio v4
– Load Despertar Cementerio v5
– Tools & Options Menu
– Toggle USB (ms0)

Nand Dumps and Nand Basics

August 27th, 2008 by jeric

The NAND Dump AND NAND Basics

This tutorial is for people who do not understand what the NAND is or why it’s so important. This tutorial should also let people know why it’s so important not to use someone else’s NAND dump. I have removed the advanced section of this tutorial being that I do not want to be responsible for people ruining their PSP.

I have made most of this from memory without looking things up. I may have mixed up some names and references. Please point out any mistakes I have made. With proof if possible.

When dealing with the NAND there are several things that you need to know. We are going to break them down in several sections.

01. Definition
02. Technical Breakdown
— A. IPL
— B. IDStorage
— C. lflash
03. Dumping the NAND
04. Restoring the NAND
05. DOs and DON’Ts
06. Downloads

01. NAND Dump

What is it? Well a NAND dump is a physical back up of the chip inside your PSP that stores all the files that the PSP needs to start up. It contains the IPL, the IDStorage, and the lflash. A NAND dump if used properly can be used to quickly unbrick your PSP. This means that you cannot screw up the PSP unless something goes wrong hardware-wise.

02. Technical Breakdown

The contents of the NAND comprise 3 sections: The IPL, the IDStorage, and the lflash.

The NAND Does not contain the RAM. The RAM and NAND are 2 different chips.

More SH*T To Read

— A. The IPL

The IPL is the “Initial Program Loader”.
When the PSP starts up the pre-IPL looks on the NAND for the IPL and loads it - if the inserted battery has a serial of 0xFFFFFFFF it is at this stage that the PSP loads the IPL from the memory stick rather than from the NAND - this is the first step in the booting process.
The IPL decrypts and unpacks itself, and starts loading everything else off of the lflash (the firmware)

There are as of this writing and as far as I know of 6 types of IPLs.

1.50 (1.00-1.52)
This will work on any PSP Classic from the 1.0 - 2.60 without modifying anything. If you modify the IDStorage and change “key 5″ you will be able to load it on 1.50 - 3.52. Only the Classic PSP’s with the TA-082+ motherboards needed to patch “key 5″.

The older custom firmwares (2.71 SE to 3.52 M33) all used a 1.50 IPL to bootstrap the 2.xx/3.xx firmware with patches.

This is no longer the case with 3.71 M33 onwards, as the 1.50 IPL was removed to maintain functionality on the Slim PSP. However, there is a 1.50 kernel add-on for this and newer Custom Firmwares which can be used on the Classic PSP.

1.50 “Simple IPL”
This is an IPL patch that was made by Dark_Alex - it removes the check for IdStorage key 5 from the 1.50 IPL, which allows it to boot on all Classic PSPs. This IPL cannot be used on the Slim.

1.50 Multi-Boot
A person by the name of Booster made a multi-boot IPL that allowed you to use Pandora to boot to either your memory card or boot directly from the NAND. This IPL cannot be used on the Slim.

3.xx M33 custom IPL
This is an IPL that was made up entirely by Dark_AleX and the rest of Team M33. This was used for an add-on feature for Pandora to allow Pandora to run on the Slim because the 1.50 IPL does not work on the Slim. This IPL is also used in 3.XX M33, and DCv3/4.

3.xx
The encryption of the lflash changed during the 3.xx firmwares. In turn they also changed the IPL that loads up. The main reasons for doing this was first because the slim PSP was on the way out the door and second because they were trying to stop homebrew. Mainly it’s because of the Slim PSP.

3.90 Multiboot / Time Machine
Starting in 3.90 M33 Dark Alex has made his own multiboot IPL. You have to have the 3.90 M33 IPL installed for Time machine to work. Time Machine will allow you to boot from 1 of 5 OS’s.

1.5 Official Firmware
1.5/3.40 OE - Mixup
3.40 OE
3.60 M33
Straight from the Nand

To have this ability with Time Machine you have to run the 3.90 M33 CFW with it’s Multiboot IPL. Time Machine also has it’s own IPL but not sure if it’s the same as what’s on 3.90 M33.

— B. IDStorage

I will not get into this too much because most people will not need to know. However there are some things that you need to know about it.

IF YOU USE THE IDSTORAGE OF PSP THAT IS NOT YOURS OR DID NOT COME ON THE PSP WHEN IT WAS MADE, YOU WILL LOSE SEVERAL FEATURES OF YOUR PSP.

This is including but not limited to the following:

Ad-hoc
UMD and UMD video
Homebrew
MagicGate

Just remember that if you use someone elses IDStorage you CAN PERMANENTLY AND IRRECOVERABLY MESS UP YOUR PSP. DO NOT USE SOMEONE ELSE’S IDStorage.

What does IDStorage do?

IDStorage keeps several hundred keys with information about your PSP on each key.
These keys hold information like the following:

Serial Number
UMD drive serial number
WLAN MAC address
Some decryption keys
Video region information
WLAN region information
Unique keys and original firmware version
Battery power settings
LCD power settings

As you can see there are several things in your IDStorage that are specific to your PSP. If these things change to something that they are not supposed to be then you can brick your PSP.

Backing up your IDStorage is not hard. There are at serveral ways to do it. The first is a program called “Chilly Willy’s Key Cleaner” this program will dump your keys for you in several .bin files for you. They can be restored using “Chilly Willy’s IDStorage Manager”. This is the preferred method of backing up your keys if you do not have Pandora. The next way is to use “cory149’s Des Cem M8″ this is a NAND dumping program that also has the ability to dump your keys. Pick one of these programs and use them. Finally, if you make a NAND dump in Despertar Cementerio, this contains a backup of the IdStorage.

You can use those same programs to restore your IDStorage once you have corrupted it. All 3 of those programs will work on DCv3/4 with jas0nuk’s ELF menu.

Here is how:

KeyCleaner will make a backup of your IDStorage Keys. It does not matter what firmware you were on when you dumped them. As long as you have DC on a memory stick with the ELF menu and Des Cem M8 then you are set to go.

You can use Des Cem M8 to repartition the whole NAND and then use KeyCleaner from the ELF Menu and restore the IDStorage. At that point you can use DCvX to install your Firmware.

— C. lFlash

The lflash is comprised of flash 0, 1, 2, and 3. They are all FAT12 partitions of the NAND. They are each separate partitions and each one of the can get corrupted all at once or each one by themselves. For instance you can have a corrupted flash2 or flash3 and never know it until you go to the PlayStation store and try to download something and next thing you know your PSP has bricked.

Flash0
Holds the actual firmware files. These files are encrypted and sig-checked. This means that when they were installed they were encrypted just for your PSP.

In other words you cannot use someone else’s flash0 files on your PSP.

The only exception to this is if you are using a decompressed and decrypted RCO file that people use when customizing thier PSP.

Flash1
Holds all of your system settings. Things like your wallpaper of choice, your PSP user name, Network settings, Flash player and other settings. On here you will find a config.se which is the file that holds the settings for the “recovery” menu. If you delete this file then you will be resetting the settings for the recovery menu. You will also find the following folder on there:

flash1:/dic/atok10.dic
flash1:/gps
flash1:/net/http/auth.dat
flash1:/net/http/cookie.dat
flash1:/registry/system.dreg
flash1:/registry/system.ireg
flash1:/updater/u.log
flash1:/vsh/theme/custom_theme.dat
flash1:/vsh/theme/wallpaper.bmp

If you use DCv3/4 and your psp locks up in the xmb then you have created your DCv3/4 with a theme/wall paper installed and must use the format flash1 option in the recovery menu. Doing this will not recreate all of the aforementioned folders. Make sure they all exist.

Flash2
Holds cert.dat/act.dat DRM stuff for the PlayStation Network. This will only show up once you have connected your psp to a PS3 or a PC for the Playstation Network downloads. This also gets backed up by DCv4 when installing firmwares. The worst part about loosing this file is the fact you will have to redownload whatever it was you downloaded to begin with.

Flash3
3.60 it was used to store the tv usb1seg application “1SEG.PBP”. This has since been moved to flash0 with all other programs. On the phat psp this is empty. Dark_AleX speculates that it will be used to store more “downloadable” content like “Go Messenger” but only on the Slim where the Classic will use the memory stick to download it.

Each “flash” area is a different partition on the NAND itself. These partitions have been known to get corrupted for various reasons. The most known reason is by using the usb option on 3.71 M33 to 3.71 M33-2. This has been fixed in 3.71 M33-4 I’m not sure. To fix this you can either use a proper working NAND dump or by using cory’s NAND tool to repartition the areas and then reflash your firmware.

03. Dumping the NAND.

There are 4 programs out right now that will allow for dumping of your NAND. The first one that everyone knows is the original Pandora. The original Pandora does not run on the slim. The second is Despertar des Cementerio v3. The third is version 4. The last and greatest is cory’s “Des Cem M8″. Corys program is by far the best tool to use to work with your NAND by far.

When dumping your NAND it is normal to see bad blocks appear. Sony is allowed to ship out the PSP’s whose NAND has a certain percentage of bad blocks. I have personally seen one brand new get shipped with 3 bad blocks. This is normal. They include a reasonable amount of extra blocks to use in this type of situation.

I personally make my dumps with whatever version of DCv3/4 I’m using. All of the programs dumps are universal. It does not matter which one you make the dump with however it does matter which one you restore it with technically.

To verify that your NAND dump is in good condition

Up to you to decide if it is useful, I know there are at least a couple slim PSPs that seem to consistently give erroneous dumps (seems to be “stray” data in empty blocks’ spares.)

04. Restoring the NAND dump

Despertar Des Cementerio version 3 and 4 will restore the dump physically. This means if you had a bad block when dumping then it will restore that bad block. The bad part about this is if you managed to get a new bad block since you made the dump you may not be able to properly restore your dump. The reason being is the DCv3/4 will restore good data to bad blocks because of the way it’s restored.

Cory’s Des Cem M8, and the old version of Pandora (only works on Classic PSP) will restore the dumps logically. This means it will check for bad blocks and will not restore good data to a bad block. It will in turn restore good data to the extra good blocks Sony included for this reason. Of course if there are too many bad blocks on the NAND then the restore will fail.

05. DOs and DON’Ts

“DOs”

Do make yourself a nand dump as soon as you have the opportunity. This can make or break your PSP.
Do make several backup copies of your NAND dump. Then zip it up and rename it to something you will understand. Mine are named:

3r14nd.v1.50.TA-079.Original.zip
3r14nd.v3.52.M33-4.TA-079.zip
3r14nd.v3.71.M33-4.TA-079.zip
3r14nd.v3.80.M33-4.TA-079.zip

I also carry them on my Pandora stick in the folder used for corys Des Cem M8.

“DONT’s”

DON’T restore someone else’s Flash0 files. They are encrypted for their PSP and not yours they will not work.
DON’T restore someone else’s IDStorage. It will screw up your PSP.
DON’T restore someone else’s NAND dump in to your PSP.

There are exactly 2 NAND dumps I know of that are fine to restore to any PSP. One of them is a NAND Dump of a Classic PSP that contains nothing but empty data and the correct partitions. The other is the exact same thing but for the Slim. These are still not good to restore unless you have a dump of your keys or a good dump of your IDStorage.

Thank yous are in order for all of the greatest devs of the PSP scene. You know who you are and there is no need to say names. I thank each and everyone of you who help this scene continue.

I hope this helps with keeps some of the noobs off of your PM box for a few.

If you know of anything that should be added to this tutorial, keep in mind it’s for the noobz to get to know more about the NAND and not getting to know how to program for it, just PM me and I shall add it in.

Remember I have never stated that i’m a know it all when it comes to the NAND just someone who has payed attention. This means there may be mistakes in this TUT just point them out and I shall correct them.

Thank you.

==================================================

Not long after Sony unleashed its updated model of the PlayStation Portable, affectionately named PSP Slim & Lite, there’s an interesting placeholder image found on Sony Computer Entertainment’s website for instruction manuals that raises eyebrows.
The image says “3000 series” on the PSP website, and it’s inevitable for people to speculate that a new line of the handheld is at least in the works.
The sleek and lighter PSP-2000 was launched back in September across the globe and the portable gaming device is expected to run for 10 years, so it doesn’t seem unlikely for Sony to push for redesigned models before unveiling a successor. Though the image could have been prepared for future plans, we’ll just watch out for any possible announcements. Keep checking back for updates!
